New York, New York
One of the largest and most influential modern art museums, The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in Midtown Manhattan, New York City, features a collection of the most important and renowned contemporary art in the world.
On the interior side of a window wall that faces New York City’s W 53rd Street, the museum chose 1/4” Fabricoil® curtains attached to Cascade’s Steel Secura Track system. During fabrication, the metal mesh received a Brite Pearl Grey finish to achieve a soft, neutral tone that met MoMA senior staff’s design vision.
Behind the glass wall is the MoMA library – a comprehensive collection of approximately 300,000 books and exhibition catalogs, over 1,000 periodical titles, and over 40,000 files related to a wide range of individual artists and art groups, according to the institution’s official website.
Fabricoil provides privacy for the library while still allowing for light transmittance and views into the space for passersby on the street.
The material’s inherent semi-transparency is ideal for MoMA. It provides solar shading and privacy and successfully maintains the integrity of the high-end space. With Cascade’s range of weave sizes and material fullness options, architects can fine-tune Fabricoil panels to meet precise project needs.
Unlike tradition curtains or rigid metal mesh panels, Fabricoil is surprisingly flexible and possesses a soft, sleek appearance. In addition, architects and designers have more color options at their disposal courtesy of Cascade’s array of durable powder-coating finishes.
